Healthcare Highways is used by a number of North Texas employers. We are in network with it, and we see members age 16 and older at our Southlake office.
The thing to understand about narrow networks
Healthcare Highways plans are typically built around a narrower set of contracted providers than a national PPO. That is the design, not a defect.
The employer accepts a smaller network in exchange for lower rates, and the saving usually shows up in what comes out of your paycheck. It is a reasonable trade for the employer. It is only a problem for you if nobody explains it, which is what usually happens.
Two consequences are worth planning around.
Your previous provider may not be included. If your employer changed plans and your doctor of ten years is suddenly out of network, this is why. It is not an error and appealing it rarely works.
Out of network costs bite harder here. Broad PPOs usually still pay something out of network. Narrow network designs often pay much less, and sometimes nothing. Verifying before a visit is not bureaucratic caution in this plan type. It is the difference between a copay and the whole bill.
Which is why we verify rather than guess
Call the office with your member ID and the plan and network names on your card. We check eligibility while you are on the phone and tell you what it returns.
If the answer is that your particular plan does not include us, you will hear it then, and you will not have driven here to find out.
What we handle
Annual physicals, preventive screening, chronic conditions, sick visits, joint injections, weight management, women’s health, men’s health and telehealth.
Patients age 16 and older. No pediatric, prenatal or emergency care.
Costs
Preventive care is covered in full under most plans. Problem-focused visits apply to your copay or deductible, and both can be billed from one appointment. See why your annual physical came with a bill.

Healthcare Highways questions we get asked
My old doctor is not in this network. Why did that happen?
Narrow network plans include fewer providers on purpose. When an employer switches to one, some employees find their existing doctor is outside it. That is the tradeoff that paid for the lower premium, and it is usually a surprise because nobody explains it at open enrollment.
Is my out of network cost really that much higher?
With narrow network designs, frequently yes, and sometimes there is no out of network benefit at all. This is the plan type where staying in network matters most, so verify before the visit rather than after.
How do I find out which providers are included?
Your plan's directory, though those lag reality. Calling the office is faster and more reliable. We will tell you what eligibility returns.
Do I need a referral for primary care?
Generally not. Some narrow network designs do require you to designate a primary care provider, which you do through the plan. We will tell you if yours does.
