What a regional network means for you
Most people are used to the national carriers, so a Texas-only network name on a card raises a reasonable question: is this real coverage?
It is. Regional networks exist because an employer whose entire workforce lives in North Texas has no reason to pay for a network spanning fifty states. They contract with Texas providers directly, at rates negotiated for this market, and pass the saving into the premium.
The tradeoffs are worth knowing.
Fewer choices, not worse ones. A regional network is smaller by design. Whether that matters depends entirely on whether the providers you want are in it.
Out of area care needs checking. If you travel or have a college student out of state, read the out of area provisions before you need them. This is the single most common gap in regional network plans.
Verification matters. Regional network directories are updated less often than the big carriers’. Calling the office beats trusting a directory listing.
Getting confirmed before you book
Call with your member ID and the network name and we will run eligibility on the phone. If we are not in network for your specific plan, you will hear that from us before the appointment rather than from a bill afterward.

Annual physicals, chronic conditions including blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol, sick visits, preventive screening, weight management, women’s health and men’s health.
Patients age 16 and older. No pediatric, prenatal or emergency care.
Costs

Why would my employer use a Texas network instead of a national carrier?
Cost, mostly. A regional network can negotiate rates with Texas providers without paying for national coverage the workforce never uses. For an employer whose staff all live in one metro, that is a rational trade.
What happens if I need care outside Texas?
That depends on your plan's out of area provisions, which vary. It is worth reading before you travel rather than after, and your plan administrator can tell you exactly how it works.
Is a smaller network worse care?
Not inherently. It means fewer choices, not worse ones. What matters is whether the providers in it are ones you would pick anyway.
How do I confirm you are in it?
Call us with the network name on your card and we will check it against what we are contracted for. Your plan administrator can confirm it definitively.
